The Occupational Health and Safety Committee (ASA)
Section 11 of the Occupational Safety Act stipulates that organisations with more than 20 employees are obliged to form an occupational health and safety committee. The purpose of this committee is to continuously keep an eye on the aspects of occupational safety and occupational medicine in the company and, if necessary, to make improvements.
The most important facts about the ASA in brief:
- Mandatory for companies and authorities with more than 20 employees, whereby part-time employees with up to 20 hours per week are taken into account with 0.5, those with up to 30 hours per week with 0.75.
- Composition: employer (or representation), two members of the works council, occupational safety specialist, safety officer (§ 22 SGB VII), company doctor.
- Must meet quarterly.
